With the launch of the Prestige 520 Flybridge, this new top of the line model carries forward the strengths and image of the previous 500 design as well as boasting many new unique innovations. The new design has paid particular attention to creating an easier and more comfortable life onboard, which has been achieved through details such as the wide side decks, forward sunpad with canopy, large cockpit, and aft swim platform. Additional ingenious features include independent access to the luminous and spacious master stateroom, and central galley leading to the living space.
The world-class Garroni design team have risen to the challenge. It is not easy to improve upon a luxury motoryacht design and features which already boasts being the world’s best-selling flybridge boat in the 50 foot range. This they have achieved with many innovative and pleasing additions and alterations. The continuous glazing running down the sides, rather than multiple windows, has considerably increased sailing pleasure by providing 3600 vision, light and visibility.
Sporting the largest flybridge in the 50 ft class, combined with customised ship control technology, makes cruising far easier and simpler. The technology allows access to all the electrical functions on board using the onboard multi-function navigation screens, or smartphones and tablets. All ship controls are at your fingertips from lighting to air conditioning and the sound system; from power management to bilge pumps and navigation; from battery levels to water and fuel tanks, and engine data.
Other features highlighting the Prestige 520’s class are the wide cockpit door, large hydraulic platform with auto steps, crew cabin which can double as a tender garage, convertible pilot seat allowing for additional seating, access to side decks and ventilation via a sliding door, and ease of handling and manoeuverability with the Volvo IPS 600 joystick.
A change not obviously evident is Prestige’s move to resin-infusion hulls, which adds strength and rigidity and slightly reduces the weight of the boat. On the side of performance, Prestige has retained the complete and integrated propulsion (IPS) system and twin 435hp Volvo Penta D6 IPS600 diesels hooked to pod drives as used on the 500. These have been placed slightly forward for optimum weight distribution which all combines to remove the tension out of manoeuvring in confined spaces. They also free up considerable space in the engine room, leading to a bigger master suite, and more space in the guest cabins, while other plusses include price, fuel economy and joystick steering for berthing. There’s even an option for a third joystick station starboard side of the cockpit, ideal for visibility, proximity and communication in marinas.
As well as managing to get two cabins, two heads and a private master suite into a 52-foot hull, other new features include things like the L-shaped sofa in the cockpit, a more modern and angular helm on the flybridge, a redesigned radar arch, and a triple wide sun-pad on the bow with new adjustable flip-up backrests. The helm itself has a bench seat for two and very cleverly has an electrically adjusted seatback that raises and lowers at the push of a button. When not operating the helm, the skipper can simply press the button and revert to entertainment mode, the seat lowers and swivels to become part of the wrap around lounge.
The salon of this incredible Prestige 520 Flybridge has an impressive 6 feet and 9 inches of headroom, and can seat as many as 10 guests. Boosting the sailing comfort and functionality is the large sliding door found immediately behind the helm seat, providing quick access to the side deck as well as allowing for a cross flow breeze and enhancing ventilation. Two other notable features are the outdoor galley with a grill, a sink and a refrigerator in the helm seat console, as well as an optional crew cabin accessed via a hinged seat in the cockpit, which features not only a single berth but also a head, sink and shower.
