Cruising Confidence : Social Flotilla Trips
Burton Waters Cruising Club Flotillas are an amazing way to gain confidence with your boating skills, whether your new to the hobby or have been boating for years. With our short tailored itineraries are created to help build confidence, develop skills and meet other likeminded boaters! Here, we’ll look at everything you need to know before joining one of our flotilla Cruising Club weekends.
What is a Flotilla?
Flotilla comes from the Spanish word flota – meaning a fleet of ships. 50 years ago, in the mid-70s, Eric Richardson popularised the flotilla concept as part of the Yacht Cruising Association (YCA), Sunsail’s precursor.
The term often brings to mind the image of ships following each other from point A to B, and you aren't far wrong with that! You will be in the company of other boats and have the support of an expert lead boat, though depending on which of our flotillas your going, you may have more freedom to explore.
Unlike some flotilla holidays, our cruising club is engineered specifically to build confidence, and our qualified RYA instructor Iain will lead the way and guide you, along with support from the wider group along the way. You will be tackling tricky areas of water, or tidal areas, which will leave you feeling a renewed sense of confidence on the water!
What are the benefits of cruising with a Flotilla?
Regardless of whether you are a newbie boater, or a seasoned pro on the water, Our Cruising Club flotilla weekends are the perfect break for yourself and your skipper! Boaters can experience new waterways with the reassurance of a group and qualified instructor, whilst also getting plenty of time to socialise and develop friendships in the evening during dinners and drinks at our various destinations!
With many of our boaters making firm friends with their Flotilla compatriots, we are so proud to be bringing bring the Burton Waters boating community together.
